Coach Wellesley Johnson is a legendary figure in Canadian sprint coaching, with more than 40 years of experience shaping the careers of elite athletes. Renowned as one of Canada’s top sprint coaches, he has guided Olympians, World Junior medalists, and countless national champions to success, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
Throughout his career, Coach Johnson has developed a reputation for blending technical mastery with an athlete-centered approach. His sprint training methodology emphasizes speed development, biomechanics, and mental toughness, ensuring athletes are equipped to excel at the highest levels of competition. His guidance has not only produced champions on the track but has also fostered resilience, discipline, and leadership off it.
A true builder of opportunities, Coach Johnson has helped more than 50 athletes secure scholarships to NCAA programs, opening doors to academic and athletic success abroad. Many of his athletes have gone on to represent Canada on the international stage, a testament to his ability to nurture talent from the grassroots level to world-class competition.
With a legacy defined by excellence, consistency, and a passion for athlete development, Coach Johnson continues to inspire the next generation of Canadian sprinters and remains a respected leader in the track and field community.
Nathan Stern

Throws Coach
Coach Nathan Stern stands among Canada’s elite development throws coaches, renowned for his ability to cultivate exceptional talent and build pathways to the highest levels of competition.
Since 2018, 19 of Nathan’s athletes have earned full NCAA and NJCAA scholarships, reflecting his proven ability to prepare young throwers for collegiate success. His coaching résumé includes multiple National Champions, OFSAA Champions, and Pan Am Junior finalists, establishing him as a transformative force in Canadian throws.
Through his leadership with Project Athletics, Stern has consistently produced athletes who excel on the biggest stages. His program has developed a New Balance Nationals Meet Record holder, multiple Provincial Record holders, and at least one New Balance Nationals All-American every year since 2022 in both the indoor and outdoor championships. Project Athletics has also celebrated a New Balance National Champion. In 2025, Stern’s athletes delivered a historic accomplishment, winning national medals in every throwing event in the U20 category, a first for the program. That same year, Project Athletics claimed the most medals in the throws of any group in Canada at both the U18 and U20 Canadian National Championships, as well as the most medals of any throws group at OFSAA, cementing the club’s reputation as the premier throws program in the country.
Collin Lewis

Collin Lewis brings over 17 years of coaching experience to the sport of track and field, with a proven track record of developing athletes into champions. Over the course of his career, he has coached multiple provincial and national medalists, helping athletes reach peak performance on some of Canada’s biggest stages.
Collin is recognized for his technical expertise, athlete-centered approach, and commitment to long-term development. His coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, consistency, and confidence-building, ensuring that athletes are prepared to excel both in competition and in life beyond sport.
With a passion for unlocking potential, Collin continues to play a key role in advancing track and field by guiding the next generation of athletes to success at provincial, national, and collegiate levels.

Tanya Scarlett is a dedicated and results-driven track and field coach who has helped develop some of the country’s most promising young athletes. With years of experience coaching sprinters and throwers she has built a reputation for combining technical expertise with a strong commitment to athlete development both on and off the track.
